October 23, 2025
|

When your teeth aren’t as straight as they could be, you might find yourself covering your mouth when you talk or avoiding going out with friends. At Platt Dentistry, we believe everyone deserves a healthy, beautiful smile they’re proud to show others. That’s why we offer Invisalign® clear aligners, a comfortable, discreet way to shift your teeth into the proper position.

In this Ultimate Guide to Invisalign Clear Aligners Part 2, we’ll continue to explore the benefits of clear aligners, caring for your aligners, and how to take the first step on your orthodontic journey.

Our dental office uses the latest technology to customize a treatment plan suited to your smile goals and oral health needs, so let’s dive in and learn more about Invisalign aligners in Lakeville and the surrounding areas.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign clear aligners are customized to fit snugly over your teeth. You’ll receive a new set of aligners every two weeks or so; each set moves your teeth a bit more until your treatment is complete.

You won’t have to worry about bulky brackets and wires cutting your lips or tongue, and without wires that need to be adjusted, you’ll make less frequent visits to our dental office.

All you have to do is wear your aligners for 20-22 hours each day, removing them to eat, brush, and floss your teeth.

That’s it!

Frequently Asked Questions about Invisalign Aftercare

It’s normal to have questions about Invisalign clear aligners, so we thought it would be beneficial to address our most frequently asked questions. If you have additional concerns about clear aligners, our caring team will happily assist you!

What Happens After I Get My Aligners?

Once your aligners are back from the Invisalign lab, you’ll come into our office so we can show you how to wear them, answer your questions, and provide some care tips.

Are Clear Aligners Comfortable?

Invisalign clear aligners are made from soft, pliable plastic, and we use digital impressions to ensure the best fit possible. Most patients report little to no discomfort when wearing their clear aligners, and because they’re nearly invisible, you can smile with confidence!

What Does My Daily Routine Look Like With Clear Aligners?

You’ll be happy to know that Invisalign clear aligners won’t disrupt your daily schedule, making them a popular choice over traditional braces.

Here’s what your daily routine looks like:

  • Each morning when you wake up, remove your aligners and rinse them in warm water.
  • Brush your teeth for two minutes and floss between each tooth.
  • If you’re going to drink coffee or eat breakfast right away, don’t put your aligners back in. Always store them in their case to avoid losing or breaking them.
  • After you eat, rinse your mouth, brush your teeth, and put your aligners in for the day.
  • Wear your aligners unless you’re eating, and rinse them each time you remove them.
  • Try to drink water throughout the day to keep them clean and keep yourself hydrated.
  • In the evening, soak your aligners in Invisalign cleaning crystals or a gentle soap.
  • Brush and floss your teeth and then put your aligners back in before going to bed.

How Do I Care for Invisalign Clear Aligners?

A little common sense goes a long way when it comes to caring for your clear aligners.

Some of the best tips we give our patients include the following:

  • To prevent plaque and bacteria buildup, always rinse your aligners with lukewarm water when you remove them. Avoid hot water as it can damage your aligners.
  • To remove food particles and bacteria, brush your aligners with a soft toothbrush and clear, mild soap. Be sure to avoid harsh toothpaste as it can scratch your aligners.
  • To keep your aligners clean and clear, soak them for 15 minutes in Invisalign cleaning solution or denture cleaner. This will ensure they are fresh each day.
  • To prevent staining and damage, always remove your aligners when you eat or drink anything besides water. The goal is to wear them for 20-22 hours each day. This will keep your treatment on track.
  • To avoid damage, keep your aligners in their protective case. Don’t wrap them in a napkin or put them in your pocket. This will keep you from losing them.
